Co-Optimization of Design and Fabrication Plans for Carpentry

Past work on optimizing fabrication plans given a carpentry design can provide Pareto-optimal trading off between material waste, time, precision, and other considerations. However, when developing plans, experts rarely restrict to single , instead considering families of variations sometimes adjusting designs simplify fabrication. Jointly exploring the plan spaces for each is intractable using current techniques. We present new approach jointly optimize carpentered objects. To make this bi-level optimization tractable, we adapt recent from program synthesis based equality graphs (e-graphs), which encode sets equivalent programs. Our insight that subproblems within our problem share significant substructures. By representing both in bag parts (BOP) e-graph, amortize cost components shared among multiple candidates. Even BOP e-graphs, space grows quickly practice. Hence, also show how feedback-guided search strategy dubbed Iterative Contraction Expansion E-graphs (ICEE) keep size e-graph manageable direct towards promising illustrate advantages pipeline through examples domain.
